Earl Kimbler Case

Case Facts

In 1981 Earl Kimbler broke into a woman’s home and got in her bed. Kimbler put a knife to the woman’s throat and took all his clothes off. The victim escaped after asking for a drink of water. Kimbler pled guilty to one count of burglary and was sentenced from 3-15 years in prison.

In 1985, Kimbler was released on parole.

Shortly after being paroled, Kimbler committed a vicious and extremely violent rape against a 40-year-old female. On November 11, 1985, Kimbler forced his way into the woman’s home. He raped the victim several times. Kimbler then forced the victim to submit to oral sex. At some point, the woman bit Kimbler’s penis and twisted his testicles. Kimbler fled the scene.

Soon after the attack, Kimbler was brought back to prison for parole violations. He had still not been identified as the individual who assaulted the 40-year-old woman. Kimbler was then released back on parole on January 20, 1987.

On January 27, 1987, seven days after being paroled, Kimbler broke into the apartment of a 21-year-old woman at 3 a.m. Kimbler repeatedly raped the woman. Kimbler also forced the woman to perform various sex acts which included performing oral sex on him. Kimbler also inserted a bottle in the woman’s vagina. Kimbler told the woman on several occasions, “Don’t bite me, because another woman had hurt me before.” Kimbler then forced the woman to prepare a meal and asked her for a date before fleeing the scene.

The 21-year-old woman told police her assailant had numerous tattoos and described a tattoo of a woman’s name. After seeing a “Crime Stoppers Anonymous” television segment, a caller identified Kimbler as the attacker of the 21-year-old woman. Police were also able to connect Kimbler to the assault of the 40-year-old woman, who also identified the tattoo.

Police obtained photographs of the Kimbler’s tattoo, along with pictures of bite marks on Kimbler’s genitals. Authorities also obtained a blood sample. Facing certain conviction, Kimbler pled guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of aggravated burglary. He was sentenced to 10-25 years in prison, which was added onto his 5-15 years sentence for the original burglary conviction. His aggregate sentence was 15-40 years in prison.

Despite Kimbler’s violent history, Kimbler unbelievably was paroled AGAIN in 2007. 18 months later, Kimbler was brought back to prison once again as a parole violator. Kimbler was brought back for serious violations, which included fleeing the state of Ohio and “trashing” someone’s house. More importantly Kimbler admits engaging in the same behavior (drinking/alcoholism) which he claims contributed to the two rapes.

Unbelievably, Kimbler was paroled once again in 2009. This time, we found the case before he was paroled. We were able to get the story in the local media, which resulted in one of Kimbler’s victims coming forward. We also reached out to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s office and they agreed to support the family at a Full Board Hearing to urge The Ohio Parole Board to reverse their decision. After they heard the testimony, Kimbler’s parole was reversed and he was continued until April 2014. In 2014, Kimbler’s parole was denied again and he was continued for his maximum sentence.

In 1999, Earl Kimbler was adjudicated a sexual predator, the most dangerous of all sex offenders. He will be released from prison on October 10, 2021, after serving his full sentence.
